He conveyed his decision to boycott the process through a letter to the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department Secretary S Swarna.

He said, “I read the letters and the enclosures sent by you. In my observation, only the names of

candidates have been mentioned in the applications, but other details about the candidates, who have applied for posts of Chief Information Commissioner and state Information Commissioners, were missing.”

The Leader of the Opposition also pointed out that one of the applicant’s name was mentioned as M Rajaram, who was a retired civil servant. He recalled that when the same official was selected for a post in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), the High Court cancelled his appointment.

“In such a condition, how can the government accept his application for the post of Chief Information Commissioner of the state, even as the RTI Act is in place to ensure transparency, responsibility and prevention of corruption,” the DMK working president noted in his letter.

“As the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, I cannot accept such faults and I do not want to participate in the selection process, since it will send a wrong signal to the public,” he mentioned in the letter.
