State a role model in cadaver donation: EPS
Chief Minister Edapapdi K Palaniswami on Friday said that the Prime Minister himself has hailed the state as a role model for cadaver donation in the country.

Speaking at a function on Cadaver Donation Week, the Chief Minister said that the organ transplantation in the state is being performed without any expense at government hospitals and 70 recognised hospitals too are involved in such surgeries.
The government is providing up to Rs 35 lakh for transplant operations for the poor under the Chief Minister’s extended medical insurance scheme. No other state is providing this much of money for organ transplants for the poor people, he added.
The state had won the first prize for cadaver donations in 2015 and 2016, he said and hoped that it would perform a hattrick this year.
Since the beginning of the organ transplantation scheme in Tamil Nadu, as many as 5,933 patients had benefited from the donation of 1,056 persons. Listing the medical schemes in the state, he said the state leads in attaining the targets of health parameters like reduced death rate of pregnant women and children. The state remains a model for attaining the millennium goals of the United Nations and the nation, he noted.
