A surveillance camera fitted in a cell phone shop has captured an unidentified man in T-shirt and jeans unlocking the bike and riding it off. Unbelievably, the thief takes just a couple of seconds to unlock the bike using a duplicate key.
The bike was parked in front of a closed shop, a few metres away from the Tirupur North police station. A man in his 30s, who comes to the spot by 7 pm, sits a little distance away on the foot step of a closed shop and monitors for quite some time to confirm that the bike owner, is not around.
He then proceeds to the bike and unlocks it in a jiffy. He also looks around to ensure that no one is watching him. He then rides away on the bike totally unaware that his act has been caught on camera.
Meanwhile, a bike theft case has been registered at the Tirupur North police station on Monday morning following a complaint from Karthik, studying in a private college in Coimbatore and hailing from Alangadu in Tirupur district.
Karthik told police that he had parked his vehicle near the police station and had gone to the Bannari Amman temple with his friend. On his return, late night on Sunday, Karthik found his bike missing. Based on his complaint, Tirupur North police have registered a case and are trying to trace the identity of the thief with the help of the video grab.
