Scare after thick smoke billows out of engine
A major fire was averted in a train after it was brought to a halt as thick smoke was found billowing out of the engine near Erode district on Tuesday. The train was heading to Tirupati from Coimbatore.

At around 7.15, the train had crossed Tirupur district and reached Rangampalayam near Erode district, when smoke began to billow out of the engine. Some passengers, who noticed it, raised an alarm.
The train was immediately brought to a halt at an isolated spot at Rangampalayam. The smoke was then put out with a fire extinguisher. The train then began its safe journey after a delay of nearly half an hour.
Thousands of passengers in the train heaved a sigh of relief as a major untoward incident was averted.
