It is said, Ramajayam (44) of Devanur in Andimadam taluk of Ariyalur district sought a legal heir certificate in 2012 at Udayarpalayam tahsildar office. Since the issuing of certificate was delayed even after 20 days of applying, Ramajayam approached S Deivasigamani (65) of Jayankondam who was working as an assistant to the tahsildar, who, in turn, demanded Ramajayam Rs 500 as bribe to speed up the application. However, Ramajayam lodged a complaint with the DVAC who caught the office assistant red-handed while accepting the bribe.

The case came up for hearing in the Ariyalur Judicial Magistrate court on Tuesday and Magistrate Ravi, who heard the case, awarded seven-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to Deivasigamani. Later, he was lodged in the Central Prison at Tiruchy.
