In the continuing cases of students’ suicide, a Class 8 girl, who was upset after being scolded by her teacher, ended her life by hanging herself at her house in Mettupalayam near Coimbatore on Wednesday night.

The deceased girl was identified as Pavithra, daughter of a realtor from Karattumedu in Mettupalayam.

Police said that Pavithra, who was pulled by a teacher for not faring well in studies, was in a depressed mood when returned home on Wednesday.

Around 8.30 pm, the girl went inside a room in her house and did not come out.

When the girl did not come out for a long time, her mother checked the room, she found the girl hanging.

On receiving the information, the Mettupalayam police rushed to the house, recovered the girl’s body and sent it for post mortem to the GH. The Mettupalayam police have registered a case in this regard and further enquiry is on.

Her death comes close on the heels of the suicide by a Class 12 a week ago. In that case to the boy ended his life for the same reason. Inquiries then revealed that the 17-year-old student took the extreme step as his teacher chided him for being poor in academics.
