A petition to fix uniform ticket rates in government buses across the state was filed at Madurai Bench. The court on Thursday directed the state and Transport Department officials to file counter by

January 4.

Petitioner Nallaiyam Perumal, a retired govt official from Dindigul stated that state had made changes in Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules in 2011 regarding the fixing of ticket fare for buses. In it the ticket fare from Dindigul to Madurai was raised from Rs 18.5 to Rs 28. 

However, government buses collect Rs 33 from the passengers. Also regarding the minimum fare in the town buses in Madurai, Dindigul and Theni districts tickets with the denomination of Rs 3 and Rs 4 are not fixed but in Chennai and Tiruchy the minimum is fixed at Rs 3. So, the ticket charges should be fixed uniformly, prayed the petitioner.
