It may be recalled that after the expose, TRB accepted the existence of irregularities in the written examination conducted by it in court. Subsequently, it allowed students to check their Optical Mark Recognition/Reading (OMR) marks on its website.

When the affected candidates cross-checked the old and new OMR marks of the candidates, they came across a large number of discrepancies, which has impleed them to demand for a re-examination.

An affected candidate, speaking on condition of anonymity said, “If the old marks are allowed to be used, then many who scored low, will gain admission, affecting the chances of candidates who really worked hard and scored well.”

According to official sources, “Although Tamil medium candidates could apply only for Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Tamil medium candidates were also allowed to write exams for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) departments.

Sources said that Mechanical Engineering drew a total of 436 candidates for certificate verification, for 219 listed vacancies; out of this, 41 were found to be fake candidates. Similarly, for CSE, 268 were called for certificate verification, including 39 Tamil medium candidates for the134 vacancies. A total of 39 fake candidates were discovered.

For EEE, 183 candidates were called for certificate verification for the 91 vacancies, where fake candidates numbered 40. Ineligible Tamil medium candidates numbered 28. In ECE, 31fake candidates and 38 ineligible Tamil medium candidates were discovered out of the 237 who were called for certificate verification for 118 vacancies. Sources revealed that similar discrepancies exist in Arts subjects as well. When asked about the increasing anomalies, a TRB official refused to respond.
