Chief Minister K Palaniswami should talk to his Rajasthan counterpart Vasundhara Raje and take steps in this regard, DMK working president M K Stalin told reporters.

The culprits responsible for the death of inspector S Periyapandian should be immediately arrested and brought here, he said.

Stalin, also state Leader of Opposition, demanded that high-ranking police officials like DGP or Commissioner be sent to Rajasthan to nab the culprits.

Periyapandian, Inspector (Law and Order), Maduravoyal police station here, was killed in the early hours yesterday while trying to to nab suspects wanted in connection with a gold heist in the city.

Four other police personnel, who were part of a special team that went to Rajasthan, were injured in the incident.

The five-member team had gone in search of one Nathuram and some of his accomplices in connection with the heist.

Last month, robbers, suspected to be from Rajasthan, had decamped with about three kg of gold from a jewellery shop at Kolathur here, after entering it by drilling a hole in the ceiling.

Four persons hailing from Rajasthan had been earlier arrested in connection with the incident.
