According to Superintendent of Police P Pagalavan, the so called country bomb blast was actually some soggy cracker blast.
The crackers were dumped in a waste yard near a Shiva temple at Kangeyanallur (between Vellore and Katpadi). The crackers could have burst when some passers-by unwittingly threw a burning cigarette on the rubbish heap. However, there were no causalities.
Crackers are manufactured in the area for local festivals and funeral processions. Outdated wicks and crackers which become soggy due to the chill climate are usually dumped on an empty plot near the Shiva temple.
