Vetrivel said his agenda was only to counter the ruling dispensation’s smear campaign launched against Sasikala and Dinakaran. “The video has got nothing to do with the bypoll, and I would have submitted it before the Jaya death probe commission, had I been called for,” he said. He also claimed sole responsibility for the video release and clarified that he did not bring either Sasikala or Dinakaran into the picture.

“It is a tell-all video. We have more videos which show the then ministers EPS, OPS, C Vijaya Baskar, and RB Udhayakumar discussing possible treatment options, among others. We will release them as and when required,” he added. “The video was taken when Jayalalithaa was moved to the normal ward from the critical care unit,” Vetrivel said.

“The 20-second clip has conveyed the truth to crores of people and so the opponents are afraid,” said Thangathamizhselvan, another Dinakaran supporter, who has backed the release, while the AIADMK and BJP charged the group with violating poll code and demanded action. Dinakaran supporters justified the timing of the release saying that it was a response to the pamphlets circulated by the AIADMK on Tuesday charging VK Sasikala with murdering the former Chief Minister.

Hours after news channels started telecasting the video and complaints of poll violation by the ruling AIADMK and BJP, the EC stepped in and prohibited the telecast. But, by then, a large number of people had watched the clip which had also gone viral on the social media, triggering reaction from several quarters, including top political leaders.
