Seventy-year-old Kamalam, who was living alone at Sundakkamuthur, after the demise of her husband was found murdered in Coimbatore suburbs. The incident came to light on Wednesday at 10 pm, when her son Nagamanickam, who lives with his family in Alandurai, came to see her.
“He found the house locked from outside.
Assuming that his mother must be around nearby, Nagamanickam searched for her, but in vain. He grew suspicious and broke into the house. He was shocked to find his mother lying dead in a pool of blood,” police said.
On receiving information, Perur police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to the CMCH. Police inquiries revealed that the culprits had gained entry into the house, hit Kamalam with a grinding stone and killed her.
The assailants then took away four sovereigns of gold jewellery she was wearing. As a number of boys from the North have taken houses for rent in the neighbourhood, police suspect their role in the murder for gain.
