Man kills kin over family dispute

Police said Mayan, 36, a construction labourer from Perur, used to frequently abuse his wife Kavitha under the influence of alcohol. Following a quarrel, a few days ago, Kavitha left for her parent’s house along with her two sons in the same neighbourhood.

On Sunday morning, Mayan had gone to his father-in-law’s house to bring Kavitha back with him. A quarrel ensued between Mayan and his father-in-law Velliangiri, 60, over the issue.

Suddenly, Mayan took out a knife and threatened to stab Velliangiri. However, the elderly man overpowered him, grabbed the knife and stabbed his son-in-law on his neck.

On hearing the loud noise, neighbours gathered at the spot and rushed a profusely bleeding Mayan to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). However he died on the way to hospital.

The Perur police registered a case of murder and arrested the accused. Further investigation is on.
