Historic defeat of poll panel, not our party, claims Stalin

Describing the RK Nagar result as a ‘failure’ of the Election Commission and not his party, DMK working president MK Stalin on Sunday said the ministers in Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam cabinet had helped independent candidate TTV Dinkaran distribute tokens to voters a day before the election.

Asked about Chief Minister Palaniswami and his deputy Panneerselvam accusing DMK and Dinakaran of jointly conspiring to defeat the AIADMK, Stalin, told the media at Anna Arivalayam, that the ruling party had distributed Rs 6,000 per vote and Dinakaran, who had distributed Rs 4,000 per vote in the earlier rescinded RK Nagar by-election, had promised to distribute another Rs 6,000 per vote for which he distributed Rs 20 tokens bearing part numbers of voters.

“Not only police and EC, even ministers of the EPS-OPS government had helped him (Dinakaran) distribute Rs 20 tokens to the voters on the eve of polling.

It was they who have partnered and not us,” Stalin alleged.

“DMK had only allied with democracy for the election.

Therefore, the election is not the failure of the DMK. I say with shame that the election is the failure of the EC,” the DMK working president added.

Slamming generously at the EC, Stalin said the commission was a mute spectator to hawala-like money distribution of the AIADMK and Dinakaran, even while calling it the “historic defeat” of the EC more than the DMK.
