An inter-state Central team of officials would take stock of the damages caused during Cyclone Ockhi and incessant rains across the state.

The team is scheduled to visit 8 locations in Chennai on Thursday, and the locations include damaged roads at MS Koil street – Royapuram (division52, zone-5), Basin Bridge power house road (division-72, zone-6), EVK Sampath Salai (division 58, zone-5), Jermaiah road, Vepery (division 58, zone-5), and Moorthinger Road (through Perambur Barracks road ) (division 46, zone-4).
The team would also inspect Otteri Nallah which over flows over the Stephenson road affecting traffic. The small arch damaged culvert (Stephenson Bridge) along Stephenson Road is to be converted into raised bridge (division 73, zone-6).
Then the team would proceed to Konnur High Road where they would inspect old choked and damaged drain that caved in the recent rain which has to be rebuilt (division 71, zone-6). A damaged road at Anna Nagar 3rd Avenue (division 101, zone-8), would also be inspected before the team sits for lunch in Koyambedu.
The team is led by Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi.
237 fishermen still missing: Kanniyakumari Collector
After Cyclone Ockhi wreaked havoc in Kanniyakumari, hundreds of fishermen are still reported missing. Though there is a dispute regarding the number of missing men in the district, Kanniyakumari Collector Sajjan Singh R Chavan,said that nearly 237 fishermen are still missing.
Out of the 237 missing fishermen, 170 are from Kanniyakumari district, he explained. Out of the remaining 67 fishermen, 41 are from other districts of Tamil Nadu. Out of 41 fishermen, 19 are from Cuddalore, 17 are from Nagapattinam, 4 are from Thoothukudi and one is from Rameswaram. Out of the 26 fishermen from other states, 17 are from Kerala, three are from Uttar Pradesh, 2 each from Andhra Pradesh and Assam. The identity of two more fishermen are yet to be established, he added.

Fishermen protest in sea
Condemning the officials of Revenue and Police Department for trying to evict the encroachments in fishermen hamlets the fishermen staged a protest by entering the sea at Sangumal coastal hamlet in Rameswaram, on Wednesday.
The fishermen said that during the visit of President Ramnath Kovind, to Sangumal, revenue officials had carried out an eviction drive and removed some of the huts built on s land.
When the fishermen tried to construct the huts back they found that a private company had encroached the land. They entered the sea along with their boats as a mark of protest against the officials.
Lanka repatriates Indian fishermen
The Sri Lankan government on Wednesday repatriated 20 Indian fishermen held by it for allegedly indulging in illegal fishing activities in the Island nation’s waters.
Fisheries officials said out of the 20 fishermen, 12 were from Rameswaram, four from Mandapam and Nagapattinam each in Tamil Nadu.
They were arrested on different occasions during January and February this year.
