“The 780 women CISF constables who underwent a year-long training at the CISF training unit at Thakkolam near Arakkonam in Vellore district would be utilised at airports, ports, the Parliament building, ISRO space centre, atomic power plants, Reserve Bank offices and Metro Rail stations,” said CISF DG OP Singh who inspected a guard of honour and took the salute at the passing out parade on Friday.
Welcoming the 33 per cent reservation for women, he said this would ensure that more women joined the force. They would be imparted training similar to men, he said and added that more constables would be chosen from the insurgency-hit Kashmir and they would be provided high level training in anti-insurgency operations, he added. A total of 19,000 cadets were trained in the 10 training centres spread across the nation, he said. With reference to Chennai airport, Singh said, “We aim to provide top level security gadgets similar to those in Mumbai and New Delhi, which, in addition to providing more security, would also ensure that passengers are able to board flights with minimum inconveni ence.” CISF saved the nation Rs 2.54 crore through its anti-theft measures across the country, he added.
