Elderly couple killed in Tirupur

Police are probing to know if the couple was murdered by someone with a plan to inherit their farm.

An elderly couple was found hacked to death at their farm house in Tirupur district on Thursday night. 

The deceased couple, Muthukumarasamy and his wife Deivathal were staying in a house on their farm in Avinashipalayam. At midnight, some villagers noticed the doors of their house was open. On suspicion, they went to check and found the couple lying dead with brutal assault injuries.

Avinashipalayam police rushed to the spot and investigations revealed that the couple was first assaulted with wooden logs and then hacked to death with a sickle. While valuables kept in the bureau remained intact, ‘mangalsutra’ of the elderly woman was found missing. Police are probing to know if the couple was murdered by someone with a plan to inherit their farm. Bodies have been sent for post-mortem to Tirupur Government Hospital. Avinashipalayam police have registered a case.
