Speaking to media, Periaiah said that 81 per cent of crimes were detected and 85 per cent of stolen properties were recovered. Accidents have also reduced significantly from 1,377 accidents in 2016 to 1,294 accidents, down by 83.

A fine of over Rs 6.20 crore was collected as fine from over 4.11 lakh violation cases registered by police, he revealed. He pointed out police have registered 1.16 lakh more cases of traffic violations and collected an additional fine of Rs 1.81 crore compared to the previous year.

“As many as 22 murders were reported in 2017 as against 25 murders in the previous year. Crime against women has also come down significantly as 101 cases were reported, which meant 35 cases lesser than the previous year,” said the Commissioner. Police also took credit to ensuring that no case of murder for gain ordacoity had happened in 2017. The commissioner also said that major crime cases, including a gang of ATM burglars, were resolved successfully due to the co-ordinated efforts of police from Western districts.
