The transport trade union members said that they visited the employees in eight regions across the state and explained the current situation.

K Natarajan, treasurer of Labour Progressive Federation (LPF), said, “We have already placed our demands and transport department officials have to take a call on them. The employees are eagerly waiting for the government’s response.”

The LPF treasurer warned that the workers would go on an indefinite strike if the government failed to accept the demands. Meanwhile, transport minister MR Vijayabhaskar, addressing the media on Wednesday, exuded confidence that the outcome of the talks would be positive. “There will surely be a breakthrough and the employees will be satisfied with our decision,” he said and assured that there would be no need for the staff to go on strike.

The Thursday talks would be held at Chrompet Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) workshop in which the minister and other top officials would hold negotiations with 10 major transport trade unions.
