The visit coming just days after he announced his decision to float a separate party and practise spiritual politics, was termed by DMK working president MK Stalin as a courtesy call, who also alluded that spiritual politics won’t work in Dravidian heartland.
Making a veiled attack on the superstar’s political style, Stalin said, “Everyone is aware of the history of people who got defeated while trying to topple the Dravidian movement. Some people attempted it only to face defeat. They have been spinning stories that Rajini has taken the plunge to defeat the Dravidian movement. This is the land of Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar”.
“Rajini has met Kalaignar the same way Vijayakanth did when he floated his party. Kalaignar might have greeted him as a matter of political decency,” Stalin said.
Asked if the DMK and Rajini would come together politically, Stalin said, “It would be decided at the time of election,” before reiterating that the Dravidian movement could not be defeated. Earlier, talking to the media after a 15-minute rendezvous with the nonagenarian, Rajinikanth said, “I enquired about his health. I took his blessings on entering politics.”
According to political analysts, unlike his previous visits to Gopalapuram, which happened mostly during his birthday or New Year, Wednesday’s visit could be treated just as a courtesy call.
Rajinikanth will take off from Chennai on Thursday evening to inaugurate the star cricket tournament and participate in the star night event in Kuala Lumpur. A source close to the superstar told DTNext that post the Nadigar Sangam events, he will meet the PM of Malaysia, his fans and click pictures with 500 of them. He is scheduled to be back in Chennai on January 9.
