Denying the charges, Dinakaran said the actor is ignorant of the happenings in the constituency, since he was away in cinema work and accused him of insulting the people through his remarks.
Kamal in his article in a Tamil weekly described the happenings in RK Nagar as a ‘fall of democracy and a great tragedy.’ The actor charged the ruling party with giving Rs 6,000 for each vote and said an independent candidate had given Rs 20,000 for the same.
Though, he mentioned the ruling party in his article, the actor was particularly harsh on Dinakaran and said even a few media friends are hailing him as a courageous and emerging leader.
When asked about the actor’s allegations, Dinakaran, who spoke to the media denied the allegations and said, “Some people were dreaming of becoming leaders since they thought there is a political vacuum after Amma’s death. They are really scared about my victory.”
He asserted if money decided the outcome of RK Nagar bypoll, the ruling AIADMK which distributed Rs 6,000 to each voter could have won. “On what basis Kamal says we gave money for votes. The allegations simply show that some people, who do not like me, are not able to accept my victory,” he said.
When reporters persisted with Kamal’s observations, Dinakaran shot back, “Is Kamal a Buddha, Jesus or Gandhi. He is just an actor. If he had contested in the bypoll, he could have known about the ground situation. He is speaking out of ignorance.”
