Mentally-ill kill Thanjavur hospital guard

According to sources, the four inmates had approached T Jothi Ramalaingam, the watchman of the hospital, on Wednesday night and requested him to permit them to go home. But Jothi refused saying that he has no orders from the doctor to allow them to go home. Later he locked the hospital and went to his room.

However, the four inmates on Thursday allegedly assaulted Jothi and strangled him to death, before fleeing the hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr Radhakrishnan, who was on his way to the hospital, found the four inmates standing at the bus stand in patients’ uniform. When enquired, they told him that they had escaped from the hospital. In a surprise turn, they willingly came back to the hospital with him.

But, the doctor after reaching the hospital was shocked to find the watchman murdered.

He informed the Vallam police who held inquiries and registered a case against all the four.
