Transport Unions to seek political parties’ support

Despite the HC order directing them to withdraw the strike, Transport unions are in no mood to relent as they are set to seek support from various political parties, besides urging other working unions to join them.
Union leaders said more political parties, including opposition party DMK, have already announced their support for the strike. Further, they will soon meet political leaders to seek their support. There are also plans to gather support from other trade organisations.
K Natarajan, Treasurer, Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) told Dt Next, “We are not intentionally going on strike. We are only demanding the government to return the amount deducted from our salary.” Holding out an olive branch, he however added that they remain willing for talks with the government.
Similarly, the union would meet leaders of various government associations like members of Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations - Government Employees Organisations (JACTOGEO), said a CITU member.
Several parties, the DMK, Congress, Left parties, VCK, PMK and MDMK have urged the government to bring the ongoing indefinite strike, that is crippling public transport, to an end.
