Bull run row: 25 held in Vellore, Tiruvanamalai

A total of 25 persons were arrested in Vellore and Tiruvanamalai on Tuesday in connection with group clashes over bull run proceedings at different places in both the districts.

While bull runs were conducted in many villages in Vellore district, trouble started in Ananthalai village near Wallajahpet after a dispute between participants from two different communities over the way the event should be conducted. 

Suddenly, some persons pelted stones at the members of he rival group with clubs, besides attacking them with clubs. 

On information, Ranipet police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd. In a follow-up action, police detained 5 persons for questioning. Similarly, at Adhamangalam village near Kadaladi town panchayat in Tiruvanamalai district, an argument between people of different villages resulted in clash. Cases were registered against two former panchayat presidents, who have gone underground after the violence. 

Police arrested 20 persons in connection with the incident at Adhamangalam. The arrests were made as a precautionary measure as bull runs will be held for nearly three days till Wednesday, police said. Police said that permission had been granted to 58 locations in the district for conducting bull runs and in most places the events passed off peacefully.
