TNPL player dies in accident near Namakkal, 6 cricketers hurt
Prabhakar (26) who played for Karaikudi Kalai team in last season’s Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), was killed in a road accident while six other cricketers suffered injuries after the cars in which they were travelling fell off the bridge at Paramathi Velur in Namakkal district on Monday.

Police said the nine cricketers were heading to Paramathi Velur from Kandapalayam in two cars after participating in a cricket match in Namakkal district.
“They played a cricket match organised as part of Pongal festivities and were returning to Paramathi Velur, when the mishap occurred. The speeding cars were racing against each other,” police said.
Onlookers told the police that a car, which was in the lead, suddenly applied the brakes to avoid hitting a woman who was crossing the Salem-Madurai National Highway.
“As the first car stopped unexpectedly, the other car hit it from behind. In the impact, both cars fell off the bridge leading to death of Prabhakar, hailing from Thanjavur. Six others suffered injuries, while two persons escaped unhurt,” police added.
The injured players were identified as Santhanam, Guhan, Nandha Kumar, Kanagaraj, Alex and Manikandan, all hailing from various districts They have been admitted to hospitals in Salem and Erode districts for treatment. Nallur police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
