Karaikal ICG staff to get housing complex next year

The complex to be built at a cost of Rs 55 crore will come up at Akkaraivattam village, in Karaikal district. Inspector General Rajan Bargotra, Commander, Coast Guard Region (east) and Deputy Inspector General S C Tyagi, Commander No. 13, Coast Guard District Puducherry and Commandant N Somasundaram, Station Commander ICGS Karaikal were present during the occasion. The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

“ICG station at Karaikal has shown considerable growth since its inception. This area is predominantly well-known for traditional fishing activity and coast-based industrial ventures including major and minor ports. Of late with the presence of industries like CPCL/ IOC refinery, ONGC Cauvery assets, Karaikal port and Sanmar Chemplast etc, the region has been evolving into an industrial hub. Therefore the Coast guard’s enhancement in terms of fleet strength and infrastructure will go a long way in ensuring safety and security of these vital assets including assistance to fishermen at sea in distress,” said a press release.
