The couple, Diez (59) and his wife Tagma (67), began their bicycle journey from Germany on June 1, 2015. On their way, they traversed through The Netherlands, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Syria, Iran and Dubai, from where they flew to Goa.
From Goa, they pedalled via the west coast road and arrived Kanniyakumari via Thiruvananthapuram. From Kanniyakumari, the couple wound their way via ECR and came to Rameswaram after crossing Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram.
Addressing the media on Pamban bridge, the couple said that they embarked on the bicycle mission with an aim to acquaint themselves with people, lifestyle, hospitality, culture and food habits in different countries across the globe. The couple said they were astonished at the number of varieties and taste of food in south India.
“If Indians visit Germany they will be disappointed with the food there. India has a rich and diverse culture of more than 3,000 years. But, the cultural history of Europe is short. We are trying to learn and understand the Indian culture,” said Tagma.
Commenting on Tamil Nadu, they appreciated by the hospitality showed by the people.
“Though it is our first visit to India, we love our trip and stay ,” was the parting shot of the couple.
When asked why they preferred cycling instead of other modes of transport to witness various cultures the couple said that cycling can keep their body fit.
From Rameswaram, the couple plan to go to Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Chennai. From Chennai, they would reach Kolkatta in their bicycle via ECR and then from Kolkata they had planned to reach Myanmar via air.
