Panchaloha idol stolen from Karur temple

Miscreants had stolen a panchaloha idol weighing 40 kg from a 100-year-old Pandarinathar temple in Periakulathupalayam in Karur on Wednesday.

It is said, priest Vasudevan who went to the temple for morning puja, was shocked to see the hundi tampered with. He was shocked to see that a panchaloha idol of Perumal had also been stolen from the sanctum santorum.

He informed the police immediately. Venkamedu police went to the spot and held investigations. They found that the miscreants had broken the wooden door of the sanctum sanctorum and made a futile attempt to break open the hundi. The police say that the idol that was taken away is worth Rs 3 lakh. They also suspect the involvement of a gang of five persons. The police team that went to the scene of crime has submitted all details to the IGP (Idol Wing) AG Pon Manicka Vel who is expected to depute personnel to further investigate the theft.
