Chief Minister, Deputy CM visit chokes Madurai traffic

CM Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam along with host of state Ministers, MPs and MLAs attended the family function of Cooperatives Minister Sellur K Raju at the famous Pandi Temple here. Due to this, the entire Madurai Ring Road from Meenakshi Mission Hospital to Viraganur Ring Road was closed. 

The Sivaganga Main Road, which connects important government offices and Government Rajaji Hospital, also went out of bounds. Vehicles were stranded for more than 3 km on the road. 

Moreover, the TNSTC buses from southern districts were diverted inside the city adding to the chaos. Buses from Tirunelveli were diverted via Tirupparankundram and buses from Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga were diverted via Anna Nagar and KK Nagar arch to reach the Mattuthavani bus stand.

Sunday being one of a few marriage days in the month, many people, who were out for the weddings and other ceremonies cursed the ruling party members. 

Speaking to DT Next, Azhagumuthu, a resident of K Pudur in Madurai, said, “We were on our way to attend a marriage of a close family friend in Viraganur, but we were held up in the traffic for more than one hour.”

Similarly, Balasubramanian, a businessman from Southgate, said that he was on his way to meet his friend but was struck in the traffic for 45 minutes. He questioned the police for closing a road for a private function and said that no one has the right to close a road like this. He also questioned the rationale behind the Chief Minister attending an ear-piercing ceremony here coming all the way from Chennai.
