The DMK and its allies have organised a state-wide protest earlier on Saturday. On Monday about 540 cadres were arrested in the city and 2,488 cadres in the rural areas of the district by the police for staging road roko without permission.
Speaking at the protest venue, former transport minister KN Nehru, said, “The AIADMK blaming the DMK rule for the current mess is completely wrong. Transportation department had to be run for the people. The earlier DMK regime worked for the welfare of the people and didn’t increase the bus fares. The present government is concerned about money, thus the bus fare is being doubled leaving the people in distress.”
