Tree fall disrupts NMR services, road traffic near Lovedale

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) services and bus traffic were affected after a huge tree fell blocking both the road and railway track near Lovedale on Monday.

While the main stump of the tree blocked the main road linking Udhagamandalam to Manjoor, some of its branches fell on the railway track disrupting services. 

According to fire and rescue personnel, a huge Eucalyptus tree got uprooted in the early morning hours. While NMR services remained cancelled from Coonoor to Udhagamandalam for the whole day, traffic on the road resumed in the afternoon. 

All vehicles including government services were stranded on the road for several hours inconveniencing the public. Tourists, who had booked for a ride on the NMR train, were disappointed. However, they were taken through special buses from Udhagamandalam. They were taken by bus to Coonoor from where they boarded the train and continued their journey.  

Officials said that there was no damage to railway tracks and regular train service would resume from Tuesday. The massive tree fall also led to power disruptions in the neighbourhood. on Monday
