VIT University students develop app for visually-impaired

Students of Vellore Institute of Technology University have created an application, aimed at helping visually-impaired to gain skilled employment. University Vice Chancellor G Viswanathan launched the app on Monday.

“The app will enable visually impaired students to gain skilled employment,” Viswanathan said adding that most of them in the state find it difficult to find such opportunities.

The app was created within a year under the ‘Envision Project’ of the Enactus Club in collaboration with the university’s Centre for Sustainable Rural Development and Research Studies (CSRD-RS), Viswanathan said and added that beneficiaries of the project would be able to get employed through the e-commerce route. To begin with visually impaired students in Vellore would benefit, he added.

CR Sundararajan of Centre for Sustainable Rural Development and Research Studies welcomed the gathering. Enactus Club president Adnan Saifee and project manager Enactus India Ashutosh Jha participated. 

VIT university vice president GV Selvam was also present on the occasion.
