Pachaiammal (4), an LKG student and daughter of Paramasivam, a farmer of Magalam Melpanandhal village near Tiruvannamalai, was reported missing from June 10, 2013. Paramasivam lodged a complaint with the Mangalam police, who registered a child missing case and launched a search for the girl.

Later, the body of Pachaimmal was found in a farm well at Arpakkam village. Police altered the ‘missing’ case to murder. After investigations, they arrested Manikandan (28) of Magalam Melpanandhal.

During inquiries, it was found out that Manikandan, who had a financial dispute with Paramasivam, had abducted and killed the child. The mahila court judge, who found Manikandan guilty, awarded death sentence to Manikandan and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 for kidnapping the child. The judge also added that, failure to pay the fine would result in an additional three years RI (rigorous Imprisonment).
