Lawyers to be raided on proof of malpractice
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Income Tax (I-T) Department to carry out raids if they find any proof for distribution of cash and properties for lawyers to vote in the election of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Petitioner Baskar Maduram a lawyer from Madurai had stated that during the election every candidate has planned to spend at least Rs 4 crore. “They plan to give Rs10,000 to Rs 30,000 apart from properties like bikes for every vote. So, a flying squad under a Judge should be appointed to monitor the election,” prayed the petitioner.
Judges N Kirubakaran and R Tharani directed the I-T dept to carry out raids if they find any proof of money distribution and also directed the govt prosecutor to get opinion from the Indian Bar Council to appoint a team headed by retired Judge to monitor it. Next hearing has been posted to February 5.
