The bill pertaining to the salary revision of MLAs was ratified by the House last month. Assembly Secretariat sources revealed that the Bill pertaining to the salary revision of MLAs requires the Governor’s ascent before giving effect to the revision.

The monthly salary of the legislators is usually sent out during the last week of every month for the respective month, and the unrevised salary would be sent out this month as well.

Sources said the revision when effected would be implemented in retrospective effect from July 1 last year.

As per the revised pay structure, the salary and allowances of MLAs would be raised from the existing Rs 55,000 to Rs 1,05,000 per month, an increase of 90.91 per cent.

Their salary would be increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 30,000, while compensatory allowance will be enhanced to Rs 10,000 from Rs 7,000 and constituency allowance would go up to Rs 25,000 from Rs 10,000.

Former Mayor and legislator M Subramanian (Saidapet) confirmed to DT Next that they had not received the revised salary. “Our leader (DMK working president MK Stalin) had registered our opposition in the House that the DMK MLAs do not want the hike while the state was reeling under the Transport workers strike seeking wage revision. The DMK had written to the Assembly Secretariat refusing the hike and seeking to continue the existing pay packet,” Subramanian said. Lone independent MLA TTV Dinakaran had also opposed the salary revision in the Assembly.
