Work on to place iron rods to support roof

Following the collapse of a section of a roof of the Veera Vasantha Rayar Mandapam in the Meenakshi temple here late on Tuesday night, work to place iron rods to support the remaining portion of the roof began on Wednesday.

Realising that the remaining part of the roof is also fragile and will fall at any time, officials quickly started the work of placing iron rods to support it. 

The work started under the supervision of retired PWD engineer Balasubramanian who is heading a technical team to study the damage to the temple. To provide security to the team fire fighters has been deployed in the shrine. 

Addressing the media, Saravana Kumar, deputy director of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Department, said PWD engineers are studying the stability of the remaining parts of the Veera Vasantha Rayar Mandapam such as the pillars and the roof. 

The roof collapse incident happened late in the night on Tuesday when a small section, near the Pasupatheeswarar Sannadhi of the Veera Vasantha Rayar Mandapam in the world-renowned shrine collapsed. Though the fire accident had happened on Friday the roof collapsed after four days.
