In a statement on Thursday, founder-president of the party, S Ramadoss said, “The government’s decision to release life convicts based on various norms including good conduct in the jail is a welcome move. Under such circumstances, it should be applicable for convicts in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi too, as it has been proved that false cases were foisted against them and they were jailed.”

The seven persons, who have served over 25 years in the prison should be released on the ground of good conduct, the PMK leader said and added, “The government should consider their families and release them, as they have no connection in the murder of former Prime Minister.”
