CBI raids NHAI contractor for alleged bribe
The Chennai office of CDM Smith, a US based contractor of many of the national Highway projects in the country, was raided by CBI sleuths on Saturday after allegations that the firm paid bribes to a few NHAI officials to bag contracts.

It was part of a nation-wide raid including at Bengaluru and Delhi. CBI said the firm paid bribe to the tune of $1.18 million to NHAI officials, who awarded various projects to the firm. The bribe was paid through fraudulent sub-contractors, who had not provided any services in the execution of the projects.
The investigation of the case is being carried out by a team headed by DSP Lalit Phular. The accused include GopalKumar, then Director (Finance) of CDM Smith India Private Ltd, and S Krishnamurthy, manager, R V Infra Solutions, Bengaluru.
