Ganapathy allegedly received Rs 1 lakh in cash and Rs 29 lakh in cheques from an assistant professor to confirm his job in the university.
Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths moved the custody petition to quiz Ganapathy on the whereabouts of the cheques allegedly received by him. In the affidavit submitted by the DVAC sleuths, they claimed that four cheque leaves handed over to the suspended VC were yet to be found.
Senior advocate Gnanabharathi, who appeared for Ganapathy, contended that the affidavit filed at the time of his arrest had no mention of the cheques. He raised doubts that the cheques could have been planted by the police, who couldn’t find them even during the 16-hour search at the time of his arrest.
