Speaking to the media, Pandian said Delta farmers have been insisting that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as Congress president Rahul Gandhi advise the Karnataka government to release the due quantity of water to Tamil Nadu so that the crops would be saved.

He said over five lakh acres of land in the Cauvery delta has been affected due to water scarcity and already two lakh acres had dried up. Unable to face crop failure, farmers have once again started committing suicide and it is high time political parties in Tamil Nadu pressure the PM for getting water from Karnataka.

Pandian claimed the state government has been keeping quiet on the issue and the PM does not want to hear anything about it. “With the slogan, ‘Save Cauvery and recover Cauvery Delta’, we have decided to start a yatra from Mannargudi on Tuesday around 6 am and would travel via Thanjavur, Tiruchy, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri and reach Hosur by 3.30 pm. Then we will reach Kabini reservoir,” said Pandian.
