Claiming that Valentine’s Day celebration is against the Tamil culture, the Hindu Munnani members, who assembled in front of the temple holding ‘Thali’ to be handed over to the couples, demanded the government ban the celebrations in the state.

On information, the Fort police rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitating Hindu Munnani members, who refused to disperse. When police warned them of arrest, a heated argument erupted between the outfit members and the police. The protestors later dispersed from the spot after raising slogans against the celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Elsewhere, Vellore north police arrested around 10 Hindu Munnani (HM) cadres who came to the Vellore fort with ‘Thali’ and garlands in a bid to thwart lovers congregating at the site. Meanwhile, the police barricaded the entrance to the fort and permitted only women wearing ‘Thali’ and toe rings to enter. Others were turned away.
