Speaking to reporters later, the doctor said that he had provided the commission some clarifications regarding the treatment provided to Jayalalithaa during her hospitalisation. He said that he had not been asked about the fingerprint and denied that there has been any discrepancy in the official time of death.
Sources revealed that during his deposition, he was questioned on whose orders he had registered the thumb impression. He had responded that he had not received any written communiqué from the office of the Chief Minister or the Chief Secretary to obtain the thumbprint but was given a verbal confirmation from the Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan.
Dr Balaji has since denied making this statement. Health Secretary Dr Radhakrishnan has also issued a statement clarifying that he had not provided any verbal affirmation to register the thumb impression and that Dr Balaji has also informed him that he had made no such claims.
