“While other hospitals in the state have only shops to cater to the needs of patients and attendants, this is the first time that a fullfledged supermarket is being opened in a medical facility,” Kandasamy said.

The facility is located near the principal’s office. The supermarket, run by the Tiruvannamalai district cooperative wholesaler stores, would cater to the needs of the nearly 3500 patients and their attendants.

It will also benefit 50 staff families residing on the campus in addition to meeting the needs of the 500 medical college students who reside on the campus hostels. Offering products at prices which are 10% lower than the existing market rates, the store will also save locals from going all the way to the town for their needs, Kandasamy added.
