Drivers, bad roads in India scared us: Globe-trotting French couple

The couple, who are on a road trip across the world, said more than anything in India, they fear the drivers and roads. Damien (31), a social worker, and his wife Emilie (31), a sports management executive, had started their world tour on January 14, 2015, in their own jeep. In the last three years, they had visited more than 20 countries and had travelled over 75,000 kilometres. 

Damien and Emilie had reached India through China and Myanmar and are set to continue their journey back to France via Nepal and Pakistan. They plan to reach France in January next year. Both Damien and Emilie drive their jeep alternately and sleep in the vehicle. They have made suitable modifications inside the vehicle so that they may take rest in the jeep itself. They have maps of all the countries and GPS devices and according to them, they have spent nearly 12,000 Euros on the vehicle to undertake the global tour. In the past six months, Damien and Emilie had been visiting various places in India and on Friday, they reached Dhanushkodi near Rameswaram. 

Speaking to DT NEXT, Damien said they had travelled to various places in the country and what they liked most was the unity among the citizens. Also, they relished the cuisine and enjoyed the goodness of local culture. However, what scared them were the drivers and bad roads. 

“The drivers are really harsh and do not follow road rules,” said Damien. Emilie too echoed his view and said that of all the countries they had been to, many nightmarish situations occurred only during their rides only in India and urged the drivers to follow road rules.
