The High Court entertained a suo motu petition on candidates passing competitive exams by bribing based on a report in a newspaper.
A petition was filed by the court registrar in which it was stated that recently there was a report that many had passed competitive exams such as TNPSC and TRB by giving bribe. The issue came to light after an affected candidate wrote a letter to the PM office. The marks obtained by the candidates were through wrongful means and because of the unworthy candidates the development of the country is affected. So, there should be regulation for conducting competitive exams and persons involved in greasing palms to pass the exams should be punished.
Also the candidates, against whom cheating cases were filed, should be investigated, he stated in the letter. Earlier, when the suo motu petition was heard by Justices Kirubakaran and Dharani, they raised the question that whether the candidates would have bribed all the exams conducted after outsourcing method was followed and also questioned that how can candidates who passed the exams by giving bribe work honestly.
When the case was heard on Friday, the government submitted a reply that no more outsourcing of tests for government jobs would be done. The counsel representing the TRB also stated that nine persons were arrested in connection with the polytechnic teachers’ recruitment scam. However, the TNPSC had not submitted its counter affidavit and the hearing in the case had been adjourned to March 9.
