St Antony’s Church festival in Katchatheevu is set to happen on February 23 and 24 and to reach the disputed island, permission is only provided for mechanised boats.

The registration process is over and 2,103 fishermen in 62 mechanised boats will attend the festival. Country boat fishermen, who have been seeking permission to attend the festival, met fisheries minister D Jayakumar and IT minister M Manikandan regarding the matter.

After assurance from the ministers that they can also travel to the island, the country boat fishermen have started the preparation. They have also threatened protest if not allowed this year.
