Family members in Rameswaram claimed that they got information from officials in Chandigarh, that Krishna Prasad committed suicide by hanging from the fan and the door was broken open to enter the room.
However, Ganesh, uncle of Krishna Prasad, who visited the Chandigarh hostel room, said there was no evidence to prove that he hung to death as the fan was intact. Moreover, the latch on the door also had no sign that it was broken open as claimed by the officials.
“The fan is still working and not damaged. If Krishna had hung from the fan, it would have been rendered non-functional. We have doubts that he might have been subjected to ragging and killed by his seniors in the hostel,” said Ganesh. Charging that the officials were trying to hide the real reason for Prasad’s death, Ganesh said that the post-mortem was carried out, and the body was handed over to them. However, the authorities there did not show the report to the relatives, Ganesh said.
The report was handed over to three officials representing the Tamil Nadu government who came to the hospital, Ganesh said. The body of Krishna Prasad is expected to be taken to Mumbai tomorrow noon from where it will be flown to Madurai and then to Rameswaram by road.
Vaiko demands CBI inquiry
MDMK leader Vaiko has demanded CBI inquiry into the death of Krishna Prasad. He also sought the probe to investigate the death of other two MBBS students from Tamil Nadu, who had died in New Delhi. In a letter to Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, Vaiko said that the death of Krishna Prasad was the third such instance of a medical student from TN in North India. Earlier, a student Saravanan, from Tirupur, who was studying in AIIMS in New Delhi was found dead in a suspicious manner. Autopsy reports confirmed that he was injected with a poisonous substance in his right hand. However, the case is still under investigation. Similarly, another student from Tirupur, Sarath Babu, also ended his life in New Delhi. Since there is suspicion in all the three cases, a CBI inquiry should be ordered, Vaiko demanded.
