Of the three nabbed, D Dasarathan (36) and D Vetriveerapandian (37) are brothers, and Shenbagavalli alias Valli Sivasakthi alias Kanimozhi is Dasarathan’s wife, police noted. While the couple are active members of the banned CPI Maoist, Vetriveerapandian has been running a Naxal front organisation called Tamizhaga Makkal Viduthalai Iyakkam (TMVI) from his Poondi residence in Thiruvallur.

Hailing from Othapai village in Uthukottai in Tiruvallur, Dasarathan had been staying in Pudukottai with his wife till recently. He had come to his brother’s house in Poondi to meet and train Tamizhaga Makkal Viduthalai Iyakkam cadres. Police had seized laptops, pen drives and hard disks from the couple’s house in  Pudukottai, where they stayed as a painter and a nurse.

Dasarathan and Shenbagavalli are associated with Naxal movement for at least a decade now and had undergone arms training in Maoists’ camp in the past, sources said.

“His brother who runs TMVI wanted members of his outfit to meet the real Naxal people. So he invited Dasarathan and wife. It was a mutually beneficial exercise. The couple were also interested in having a look at the youngsters and their enthusiasm. They were also looking for fresh recruits for their outfit,” sources said.  “Training may not mean arms training. But TMVI chief wanted his cadres to be trained in basics like march past, saluting etc. Those kinds of training had happened in the past as well,” sources added.

Apart from the books, mobile phones and pamphlets related to Naxalism, the police had also seized a lap top from the TMVI chief when he was arrested on February 10.
