The 27-year-old statue was renovated and kept covered with a cloth till it could be officially revealed next week.

But on Monday morning, residents of Devikapuram’s four roads junction, where the statue is located, were surprised to find the cloth removed and a garland on it.

Revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and started investigating the matter. Meanwhile, when local congress cadres approached officials for permission to unveil the statue, they were told to approach the district administration.
