Besides interacting with officials, Purohit also gave away financial aid to the beneficiaries of a state government maternity scheme.
Purohit, who earlier held such meetings in Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Krishnagiri and Nagapattinam, attended a slew of events here.
The Governor "viewed the presentation on features of Kancheepuram district made by the Collector P Ponnaiah," a Raj Bhavan release said.
Superintendent of Police, Santosh Hadi Mani, and heads of various departments were present during the meeting, it added.
The Governor also gave away Amma Gift Box to lactating mothers at the Primary Health Centre at Paddappai in the district.
The Amma Gift Box was another scheme of the ruling AIADMK. The kit contains items including a baby towel, dress, bed, mosquito net, napkin, oil, baby soap, bath soap and liquid sanitiser.
Later addressing students of a government girls' high school at Ekanampettai, Purohit stressed on the need for hygiene and simplicity.
He urged the students to follow the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi in living a simple life and also advised them on the need for time management, the release said.
The Governor, who inaugurated houses constructed under a Central scheme, later received petitions from people at Kancheepuram and promised 'due action,' on them, it said.
He also participated in Swachch Bharat initiatives.
Purohit later received the blessings of Kanchi Seer, Jayendra Saraswathi at the Shankara mutt and offered prayers at the famous Kamakshi Amman temple.
Local unit of the DMK, led by former Minister and MLA, TM Anbarasan, staged a black flag demonstration against the Governor for holding such a meeting here with officials.
Anbarasan said that his party was steadfast on its stand on the importance of state autonomy and flayed the ruling AIADMK for "supporting" the governor's visits.
Purohit faced protests during his visits to some of the districts in recent months, with DMK cadres showing black flags alleging that he was interfering with the state's autonomy.
This charge, however, has been rejected by the Raj Bhavan as well as the ruling AIADMK and BJP.
